PWCDC Internship Program

PWCDC ANNOUNCES THIRD YEAR OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Internship Program Will Offer Unique Opportunities to Local Students

May 30, 2009

Woodbridge, VA – Prince William County Democratic Committee (PWCDC)

Chair Pete Frisbie announced that applications are currently being accepted for the Democratic internship program. The internship program is open to current high school and college students. Students must be at least 13 years old to apply. These internships are unpaid and will be based in Prince William County out of the PWCDC headquarters. The internships will consist of flexible hours and many will be available through November.

This is the third year of the internship program. The past two years the committee has had dozens of interns and to date PWCDC already have several interns in place for this summer.

“Cultivating young Virginia leaders is incredibly important, especially in 2009” Frisbie said. “As a former Washington intern myself, I know how valuable a professional experience in the political world can be.

It is important that future Virginia leaders from all over the county get the opportunity to become involved in and gain an understanding of the political process in local government and how that process directly affects their everyday lives.”

Through the program, the interns will work closely with the Democratic campaign staff and elected officials in a variety of roles. "I encourage students of all areas of study to consider the value of learning more about the process of representative government. Working in a positive political environment can enhance a high school or college education and make students more competitive job applicants when they graduate.

Many current staff members on Capitol Hill are former interns," Frisbie said. Interested applicants may obtain an application from the PWCDC at www.pwcdems.com or via email at pfrisbie@aol.com. Applications are available year round.
